Arkansas River Weekend

Come enjoy a weekend of whitewater boating with High Country River Rafters. Over the course of the weekend we will be running multiple sections of the Arkansas River and have a stationary camp at Five Points to keep us all together as a group.

Current HCRR membership is required to participate.

• Raft Recommendations: Big, heavy 14 ft+ rafts will struggle out there. We recommend bringing smaller rafts, duckies (inflatable kayaks), and highly maneuverable paddle rafts. If you were planning on rowing a large raft, keep it light.

• Expect to Get Stuck: Even with smaller, lighter watercraft, the reality of this water level means finding rocks is almost inevitable. Be mentally and physically prepared for some technical maneuvering, shallow spots, and the distinct possibility of having to hop out to drag or push your boat off a shoal. Good footwear is a must.

• Patience at the Boat Ramps: Because the entire river corridor is compressed by these low flows, the access points are going to be congested. Expect the boat ramps to be particularly crowded. Please be efficient during rigging and de-rigging, pack your patience, and let’s represent the club well by being helpful and courteous neighbors at the ramps.

No matter what happens on the river, most of us are staying at the Five Points Campground, and if nothing else, we will just hang out, relax by the river, and have a party there.

With the help of several club members, we have reserved almost all the campsites at Five Points with hopes of pairing members up so we can all be together. It is our recommended location to camp as it allows plenty of space for tents, trailers, and rafts. It also serves as our daily morning meeting location to form groups.

After you have registered, we encourage you to reference the following spreadsheet to coordinate camping with other members. Please note that these members paid for these sites themselves, so you will need to discuss how best to split the costs. If prompted, sign in using your HCRR-registered email address. Everyone is responsible for their own meals for Friday and Sunday. However, Saturday we will have a potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to share. You do not need to make a dish for the entire group.

This event is free! There is a daily vehicle pass fee for many of the river access points of  $10 - $12 per vehicle per day. However, if you have a state parks pass, there is no charge. 

Participants must register in advance and be current HCRR members. Additionally, each participant must register individually even if you've already reserved a campsite.
